In society with an ever expanding digital arena peoples physical appearance gets more attention than ever before.
In addition to the traditional outlets, such as magazine filled with movie stars and supermodels with their digitally enhanced pictures, access to high end products, stylists and the such, we can now find ourselves being judged next to a wide range of people on various social media platforms, further instilling in people the belief that how we look is how we are valued as a person and how we are judged.
Whilst selfies, rate my look and the like increase, it appears we are in danger of forgetting we are not merely the sum of our appearance.
Being tall, blonde and slim doesn't necessarily make you an airhead or a bitch. When someone comments that a girl is pretty and nice that shouldn't be a surprising afterthought, it is possible to be both.
Additionally having brown hair and glasses does not make someone dull, one of my best friends has both and she is one of the most awesome people I know, creative, a wicked sense of humour and an absolute pleasure to spend time with.
I could give you a long stereotypical list of men and women and how they could be judged on their looks alone, however I am sure you can see where I am going with this. To think you know anything about a person because of how they look is not only doing them a disservice, there is also the real danger you could miss out on making a wonderful new friend or find a potential partner because you judged them visually before you got to know them.
So the next time you have the chance to make a new connection with someone, whatever age, race, gender they are, give them a chance to show you who they are as a person before you make up your mind about them.
